Fundraising Events
Vision of Hope welcomed friends, new and old, to the 4th annual Day at the Races on May 21 at Golden Gate Fields Racetrack in Berkeley. This year’s event attracted over 200 guests who vied for more than 100 lavish gift baskets in the always exciting Door Prize Raffle. The Main Giants Raffle once again wowed people with 10 Giants owner’s tickets, a $100 restaurant package and a $100 Nordstrom’s gift card! New this year, and already a hit, was a silent auction of twenty items including a photo safari trip to South Africa, owner’s tickets to a Giants game, premium wines, a 4-night stay in beautiful Mendocino and even a Dominican doll! It takes effective planning, organization, and execution to successfully pull off an event like Day at the Races. This was amply supplied by the Races Committee composed of Sheri Stuckey, Angela Stanfel and Nick Rasic. The results speak for themselves – $20,000 netted – a new record!
Students Alex Bajana, Alma Busch, Tatiana Quiroz and Jennifer Reyna accompanied by teacher, Leiana Tetrault from St. Anthony-Immaculate Conception School in San Francisco greeted and checked in guests. In addition, there was a strong turn-out by Dominican Sisters from all over the Bay Area. All present enjoyed the sumptuous breakfast and lunch buffets!
Proceeds from Day at the Races are an important source of unrestricted income for Vision of Hope. Given the success of Day at the Races in Northern California, a committee has been formed to secure a racetrack location in Southern California and to begin planning a similar event for late this year
or early next year.
Mark your calendars now for Northern California’s 5th Annual Day at the Races at Golden Gate Fields on May 19, 2012! See you there!
